Next Limit Technologies showcases thorough and accurate AV simulation

Developer of 3D software solutions for engineering, architecture, video games and media entertainment Next Limit Technologies has presented its new simulation software, Anyverse, during Autonomous Vehicle Technology World Expo (Stand AV10016).

Victor Gonzalez, CEO of Next Limit, said that the company is purposely not using a video game platform for its AV simulation technology, because these types of platform always compromise on quality. “In games, there is always a trade-off between quality and performance,” he said. “If you want to go to real time, you will have to sacrifice – you need to sacrifice a lot and spend a lot of time on optimisation.”

Rather than using RGB for colours, Next Limit is using a spectral approach to the light simulation. “It’s the small details that are important,” added Gonzalez. “You want the car to perceive the reality accurately and you need proper simulation approaches for all the possibilities. Video games are in a different part of the business, where they can settle for achieving good, beautiful results, but not 99% accurate, like we’re doing.”

Next Limit provides a solution designed for easy integration into the most commonly used tool frameworks and workflows that are emerging today. Anyverse’s goal is to speed the development of training scenarios and help customers achieve their end goals of reliable and safe systems. “Real-world data has some constraints. Our approach is to leverage synthetic data so that machine learning teams can speed up the training of the models and improve the safety, because they can cover a large number of situations that cannot be recreated in the real world,” continued Gonzalez.

The company also has a ‘variations engine’, which allows the generation of a lot of images that have big variations in weather and light conditions, so that the process can become more efficient. “If you don’t have all those variations in place, the system will be trained with just a small fraction of all scenarios.”

In addition, Next Limit is introducing Anyverse Access, a partnering program to allow select early adopters to gain access to early releases of the solution and to collaborate with the Anyverse engineering team on ensuring their needs are met.
