LIVE SHOW NEWS: Engineering recruiter VHR opens autonomous and electric vehicle division

Technical recruitment agency VHR (Stand 11014) is at Autonomous Vehicle Technology World Expo to promote its move into the field of recruiting engineers, project managers and technicians for the emerging field of AVs and electric vehicles.

Conor McKeon, director for automotive engineering, said, “We do a lot of work in Formula 1, but because there is so much growing technology in the area of AVs and EVs and there is a need for skilled engineers, we looked at this as an opportunity to diversify into this area. As a result, we are looking for skill sets outside of the automotive industry, because a lot of the autonomous vehicle market is to do with software, IT, things that are not so mainstream in the automotive market.”

McKeon thinks that the skills shortage stems from a lack of awareness: “There is a universal shortage of skilled engineers. It’s not as exciting as it used to be. The cool factor needs to start to appeal to the younger generation. We go to trade shows like this to talk to people and match their skill set to what our clients are looking for. At a show like Autonomous Vehicle Technology World Expo, there are a lot of engineers we would like to get in contact with and speak to about what they are looking for in a future company. In aerospace, Formula 1 and marine, we’re very well known, but for AV and EV, we’re only just starting out. Shows like this help to get us a bit more awareness.”

VHR is currently in talks with a German manufacturer to supply a development team for a major upcoming project.
