AVs need rigorous testing and rigorous testing needs a solid framework. Foretellix argues that, even as developers rack up physical and virtual miles, they still lack the knowledge of a number of metrics. Firstly, they need to know which driving scenarios they have and have not executed successfully. They also need to keep track of which scenarios to define and execute next. Finally, when they are done, engineers are still limited by a lack of metrics to indicate that safety goals have been realized.

The company says that a focus on quantity of testing – the number of miles driven, physically and digitally – is not working. Instead, Foretellix’s solution shifts the industry’s focus to ‘quality of coverage’ with a coverage-driven verification approach. This is enabled by multiple technology breakthroughs to meet the industry mandate for measurable safety by covering hundreds of millions of driving scenarios, including edge cases. Foretellix technologies work with and complement simulation, test tracks, X-in-the-loop and test vehicles.
