LIVE SHOW NEWS: Testing and validation more important than AI design and learning, says Understand.AI

Speaking live on the second day of Autonomous Vehicle Technology World Expo, Marc Mengler, CEO of Understand.AI (Stand AV11012), revealed that the main challenges in AV software development lie in testing and validation, rather than design and learning.

“What we do is both the AI training and validation, but the validation is becoming a much bigger market,” he said. “It’s also much more important, as we have to make sure that on real-world data, a car doesn’t cause accidents.

“Since 2016, we’ve been doing R&D work, but we’re progressing more and more into the validation market. The two areas also come with a very different mindset, where the test engineers are more practical, focusing on whether the technology that is being researched is suitable to go to market.”

In response, US company Mighty AI is expanding its services to also include validation as a service, in addition to its platform for managing and labelling AV sensor data. It will now also take images that customers have produced from their sensors with the labels and bounding boxes already on the images and Mighty AI and its community will now also review these for accuracy.
