Solid-state lidar
Marelli

Under a joint development agreement with startup company XenomatiX, Marelli Automotive Lighting is creating a new line-up of lidar modules.

These jointly developed full solid-state lidar modules, using mature VCSEL and CMOS technologies, are the basis of a reliable and affordable sensor offering. This novel technology has no moving parts, making it resistant to automotive shocks and vibrations. Unlike on spinning or MEMS-based lidar, there is no mechanical scanning involved: this technology covers the full field of view, resolution, range or frame rate at the same time.

Marelli can combine different module types in standalone lidar units or embed them into lamps (SmartCorner) and other car areas to create short-, mid- and long-range distance measurement sensors. These modules come with diverse fields of view and resolutions to better match a customer’s use-case requirements. The in-house-developed tracking and classification software combines neural networks and rule-based algorithms. Adherence to Automotive SPICE, ISO 26262 ASIL B and SOTIF requirements is standard. All this enables fully supported autonomous cars and ADAS functionalities, such as valet parking, traffic-jam chauffeur and highway pilot (i.e. reinforced L2 to L5, according to SAE J3016).

Marelli and XenomatiX will present a demonstration car equipped with sensors at this year’s expo.
