Soft-body physics modeling
BeamNG

BeamNG's ADAS solution, BeamNG.tech, places highly detailed soft-body vehicle models within a virtual environment, serving as the user’s digital twin or testing ground. The company believes soft-body physics modeling provides a more authentic vehicle behavior than the industry’s typical rigid-body solvers. As a result, detailed tire, suspension and powertrain modeling reveal realistic damping and vibration behavior across an array of vehicles. BeamNG.tech offers an abundance of connectivity options catering to the needs of ADAS researchers, including Simulink coupling, a ROS bridge, Python and MATLAB integrations.

BeamNG.tech’s physics modeling is built around a highly optimized, real-time mass-spring model. Vehicles comprise nodes (point masses distributed across the vehicle) and beams (linkages between select pairs of nodes) that describe elastic-plastic relationships between the pair. BeamNG.tech’s rigorous adherence to conservation laws results in accuracy that compares favorably in experiments with detailed real-world data. The simulator physics, made available for user query, rapidly updates at a rate of 2,000 times per second.

The company also offers a comprehensive suite of analytical tools and vehicle sensors, including camera, lidar, radar, ultrasonic and IMU sensors. These sensors are available on the aforementioned APIs and provide data up to 2,000 times per second, allowing the ADAS researcher to apply real-time or a-posteriori processing.
